Frequently Asked Questions

Why should you consider a career at Blue Beacon? The FAQs below are designed to answer these questions and more. Please take a few minutes to learn more about Blue Beacon and seriously consider what we have to offer.

Blue Beacon washes trucks - unlike anyone else. When a customer pulls a truck into the wash bay, our employees "attack" the truck in a very organized manner, much like a professional pit crew attacks a race car during a pit stop. Our experienced crews can wash a complete semi (tractor and trailer) in less than 15 minutes, which is nearly twice as fast as many of our competitors.

Blue Beacon Truck Wash is modern and up to date in both appearance and operation. We use the best equipment available. We also have the largest automated charge account system in the industry, making it easy for our customers to do business with us.

When customers want quality, service and convenience, it's no surprise that they choose Blue Beacon.

We believe our success can be attributed to these 5 things:

People- The key to Blue Beacon's success will always be its people. Each employee plays an important role in the truck wash's success. We care about our employees and work hard to ensure all employees are treated well.

Facilities & Equipment- Blue Beacon managers are charged with keeping our facilities in "like-new" condition. Each year the company invests significant time and capital to renovate its facilities to maintain their "like-new" appearance. We use only the best equipment available.

Standards- Blue Beacon has standards for every area of its operation from maintenance - to customer service - to wash quality - to employee relations - to safety - to sales and profits. Our employees care and make a sincere commitment to meet these standards every day.

Training- Blue Beacon is committed to providing excellent training and uses designated trainers to provide high-quality one-on-one training. Our interactive, computer-based training system allows employees to supplement their one-on-one training.

Systems- Blue Beacon is very results oriented, and we have created a comprehensive measurement system for monitoring results. Management and employees receive consistent feedback on results and we use our measurement system to recognize and reward excellent performance.

First and foremost, Blue Beacon managers are valued and respected. Being part of Blue Beacon is like being part of a family. Every general manager is on a first-name basis with company leaders. We take pride in the fact that several company leaders, including the CEO, worked their way up in the Blue Beacon system.

Blue Beacon allows and encourages managers to balance work and family time. Blue Beacon managers have flexibility in setting their own schedules. We encourage managers to take an active role in their communities. Blue Beacon managers can often be seen coaching their kids' athletic teams, serving on school committees, working in their churches, and participating in community organizations.

We always ask management their relocation preferences. We never move people to somewhere they do not want to live. We've learned that when management team members live where they are happiest, they perform better.

Blue Beacon has numerous support systems to help our managers be successful. At some companies, the home office is viewed as the place where decisions are made that make no sense in the real world. At Blue Beacon, we work very hard to make sure that isn't the case. At our home office in Salina, Kansas, there are over 150 employees who are dedicated to helping our truck wash teams be successful.

Circle of Excellence Awards are given every 18 months to recognize outstanding performance. Each year, at least 50% of our general managers earn our Circle of Excellence Award and receive an all-expense-paid vacation for themselves and their spouses.

Managers are visited quarterly by trained field representatives, each of whom has responsibility for 6 to 8 truck washes. All field representatives were promoted from our general manager position and they help the local management teams to evaluate and improve their operations.

While our managers do have offices at the truck wash, they spend much of their time out of the office working with employees, interacting with customers, and keeping our equipment and facilities in like-new condition.

No, Blue Beacon managers are hired and promoted based on their performance and proven leadership experience - not just their time in position or whether or not they have a college degree.

Blue Beacon managers are responsible for a 24 hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week operation. While working 8-5 Monday through Friday is not possible, Blue Beacon does not expect or accept managers working an unreasonable number of hours. On average, managers will work 45-48 hours per week and are encouraged to make time for family and community activities. A successful manager should miss few recitals, games, school activities, and other events that make up family life.

The amount of training time required will vary depending on a candidate's knowledge and experience. All candidates are given an individualized training plan that includes training time in each position. Blue Beacon’s training is rigorous and demanding, but when your training is finished, you will be ready for the challenge and rewards that await.
